VetCon Focus Sessions

VetCon Focus Sessions are small-group tutorials with some of the veterinary specialists speaking at VetCon 2022.  This is your unique and exclusive opportunity to meet, engage, learn even more, ask questions, and talk through some of the challenging cases that you have encountered recently in practice.

A maximum number of fifteen delegates may attend a VetCon Focus Session. These one-hour sessions will take place in one of the luxurious suites upstairs in Fota Island Resort. Book your place on a focus session when registering for VetCon 2022. Tickets for each VetCon Focus Session cost €60. An additional  2 CVE/CPD credits will be awarded for Focus Session attendees (VCI approval code included with certificate of attendance).

Thursday 28th April

  • Interpreting pet food labels through the eyes of a specialist in nutrition with Cecilia Villaverde, European specialist in veterinary and comparative nutrition.
    • Description: become an expert in reading what your clients feed their pets. Interpret ingredient lists and form opinions on the quality of the many diets and pet foods that are available to pet owners. Develop key skills with Cecilia's guidance in recommending the correct pet for dogs and cats of different ages and life-stages.

  • ECG Interpretation with Rachel Blake, European specialist in small animal cardiology, and senior lecturer in cardiopulmonary medicine at University of Edinburgh.
    • Description: this practical session with Rachel Blake will work through a number of ECG traces and cases. It will help delegates become more comfortable interpreting ECGs and improve their ability to diagnose and treat canine and feline cardiopulmonary disease.

  • Local Anaesthetic Techniques with Carl Bradbrook, Zero Pain Philosophy and Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists.

  • Critical thinking skills with Megan Brashear, senior manager of veterinary nursing, University of Purdue, Indiana
    • Description: Work through real-life ER and ICU cases and test your reasoning and thinking skills. Discuss your nursing concerns with each case, how you would respond to changes in the patient status, and what patient outcomes you would expect and want to achieve.

    • Description: Get to grips with elbow dysplasia by working your way through real-life cases under the stewardship of Padraig Egan. Improve your diagnostic and elbow imaging skills and learn the latest evidence-based treatment protocols.

  • Complex fracture management with Shane Guerin, specialist in small animal surgery
